Stitching in public

Every other week I meet with a group of crafty stitchers at Panera bread – the group started as an extension of my Crazy quilting group. We get together, several of us order dinner, at least one only gets a drink, there are desserts (we moved from a Starbucks because of the larger selection of food available). So, as we sit, we sit and chat (thus, how “stitch and Bitch” got started I’m sure! Grin!) – we talk about husbands, children, aging parents, work and a multitude of other subjects.

Then we get out our stitching:

So, for this week, Frances is working on a “Sunbonnet Sam” – really cute, isn’t he?   The one next to that is Dianna’s campground cross-stitch project – she’s having a ton of fun adding beads to this.

Then there’s Liz’s famous chip bag bag’s – these are made by folding and weaving the chip bags together – aren’t they awesome? This purse is finished and lined – she’s always got a ton of these going (I think she should sell them on Etsy!).

Last but not least is Rhonda’s painting that she’s stitching over.  It makes an ordinary water color looking painting look 3 dimensional.

What’s really really interesting about this is that we have people approach us – A LOT!  We’ve had guys come by and ask us to sew on buttons for them (UM no!) and we’ve had ladies stop by and tell us which groups they are in and what projects they’re working on. We have MANY people say “wow, I used to do stuff like that, I’m going to go home and find my project!”. And we have kids – LOTS of kids. They come by and oo and ahhh and ask to touch and look and watch.

This I think is the most valuable, all those kids and maybe inspiring an interest in them they wouldn’t get at home!  They all seem so happy and inspired (and maybe make their Moms wonder what they should work on – ha ha).

So, what about you – do you stitch in public?
