The buttonhole stitch and other weekend endeavors

So, this weekend, I’m leading a class on embellishment at the Rocky Mountain Crazy Quilters. Which is kind of like saying “I’ll teach you how to make a crazy quilt in a day” sort of class – overwhelmed? Added to that is the fact that we have “beginners” and “way, way, advanced” and so how to entertain the masses? THE BUTTONHOLE STITCH! (insert clapping and cheering here!) Ok, maybe it’s not that exciting and if you know about my LONG hatred of the stitch because of working on my kitty quilt, then you know I was thoroughly sick of it and decieded never to do it again. However, in crazy quilting (and in any stitching really) it’s sort of a staple. I was particularly taken with the buttonhole wheel (which I think we’ll all practice) – here: With some practice, I think we’ll move onto this stitch combo:
