On ripping out stitches

Stitch night was tonight and oh how I love it! It focuses my work and gives me time to sit and chat and just think about stitching! (oh, and we eat at Panera, which I love). How bad can it be!

I’m working tonight on my fairy – and by “working on” I mean “ripping out”. Here’s what interesting about this. 5-10 years ago, I would have NEVER ripped out stitches. However, these were NOT in the right spot. I really didn’t like how it turned out and here’s the plan I came up with this afternoon….

Whats interesting is that based on this really rough outline, none of my stitches fit with the design.

Now, this was rough – just to give me an idea of where I wanted the flowers to sit. So, while I ripped out all the flowers that you see behind my doodle – I looked up flowers in silk ribbon embroidery books to get an idea of how big, what types, how many flowers I wanted in my big bouquet.

I now have my very first sketched plan of a design – ever. Normally I just “go for it” – get in and start stitching. But this pieces moves me to be more organized and more steady with my stitches. Tomorrow, I start the flowers. Silk ribbon goes really fast, so I”ll let you know how it goes (pictures as I make progress!)
